Coliving can be a modern form of shared housing for like-minded people to live, play and work together. Coliving like a modern concept loosely goes back nearly century in the form of tenements yet may also be considered associated with much older forms of communal living including the longhouse. Its contemporary form has only gained prominence in recent years as a mixture of factors have triggered interest in this type of living space, such as a lack of housing opportunities, the cost of independent accommodation and raising finance to get, plus a growing fascination with lifestyles not dependent upon long-term contracts.
