Choosing viviendas can be a daunting task. It is a life altering decision as this will be your home for the next year (at least) depending on the structure of the lease agreement.

-How many bedrooms?

Typical apartment setups are as follows: studio, 1 bedroom, 2 bedrooms and three bedrooms. A studio apartment is a large room where everything sits. Personally, I'm not a fan of studio apartments simply because they lack the privacy of rooms and I personally prefer to compartmentalize things in their respective rooms. A 1 bedroom is ideal for a single 20 something years old man or woman in the beginning stages and they will have a reasonable rate per month for a 1 bedroom. 2 about three bedroom apartments seem to work well in excess of one person, typically families or friends who become roommates. More expensive, but with roommates this allows you to split the rent.

-What is included in the rent?

Some apartments offer different utilities inclued within the rent. Several example utility offers could be free heat and hot water, free electric and gas, etc. Since most apartments offer this and these types of inclusions have become quite commonplace, always ask or find out what is included. The most common offering appears to be free heat and domestic hot water and other utilities for example gas and electric aren't included. This is reasonable and I would recommend this case.

-What is the parking situation?

If you own a car and drive regularly, than the is a very important factor. Some apartments possess a parking lot where you are assigned one automobile parking space. You will never must be concerned with parking if this describes the case til you have guests. Guests will then be tied to parking all the time. Other apartments could have lots, however with first come first serve parking. Not a big deal, unless there is limited space, in which particular case this can be a problem. Usually apartment buildings possess the necessary space so it does not become a concern. Other apartments may have street parking. It's always been an issue of mine as street parking does not always guarantee parking and also lends itself to the chance of car vandalism and theft.

-Is the apartment furnished?

Most apartments must be furnished by the tenant, but in those rare occasions, the apartment might be furnished having a couch, bed, chairs, etc. For a way you feel about using other people's stuff, a furnished apartment may or may not work for you.

-Location

Can it be near major highways? Will you have a supermarket close to you? Entertainment? It could be wise to navigate the area and see what's near there, that way you have a clear notion of how quickly you can obtain necessities.

-Neighbors

This one is very hard to determine prior to you buying an apartment and it is usually discovered once you have already moved in. You can look at to ask the landlord about any noise issues, but most of the time they are going to say there is no noise even when there is. Nobody wants to live in an apartment with lots of noise, so usually this will be a crapshoot.

Good luck with finding your new apartment. Hopefully these guidelines have given you some sort of indication as to what to expect when selecting your apartment.
